Introduction: In 1986, Carboplatin was approved for medical use. It is a chemotherapy medication introduced in the treatment of several cancers. This includes ovarian cancer, head and neck cancer, brain cancer, lung cancer and neuroblastoma.

What is Carboplatin?

The carboplatin 450 mg is a platinum based antineoplastic medication and acts in order to interfere with duplication of DNA.

The carboplatin injection is used as an initial treatment option for advanced ovarian carcinoma in established combinations with certain other approved chemotherapeutic agents. Combination of cyclophosphamide and carboplatin is the one established regimen. According to the NCIC and SWOG randomized controlled studies, carboplatin versus cisplatin, both together with cyclophosphamide, have shown equivalent OS (Overall Survival) b/w the two groups.

Carboplatin is used as a palliative treatment of recipients with ovarian carcinoma recurrent following prior chemotherapy, including those recipients who have previously taken therapy with cisplatin. Within the population of patients previously taken treatment with cisplatin, those with progressive disease while taking cisplatin therapy may have a reduced response rate.

How to Take Carboplatin?

The recommended dose of carboplatin injection is administered by infusion into a vein (intravenously-IV) over at least 15 minutes by a healthcare provider. The dosage of carboplatin injection is based on the patient's medical condition, body size, and response towards the therapy. In general, the courses of carboplatin therapy should not be given more often than once every four weeks.

Price & Storage: The carboplatin Injection price in India  is quite reasonable at each and every certified (ISO & WHO-GDP) pharmaceutical wholesaler or pharmacy. Prices of carboplatin usually may vary depending on the non-branded (generic) to branded (innovator) version drugs.

The carboplatin injection should be stored between 15°C and 25°C, protected from light and freezing. It comes in a clear glass vial that is packaged in a clear plastic polyethylene terephthalate sleeve to protect from breakage. It is recommended that the vial remains in the original carton until the time of use.

Research: The carboplatin also can be used for adjuvant therapy in the treatment of stage-1 seminomatous testicular cancer. Research has suggested that it is not less effective than adjuvant radiotherapy for this treatment, while having fewer adverse reactions. This has led to the carboplatin injection based adjuvant therapy being generally preferred over adjuvant radiotherapy in the clinical practice.

Combination of carboplatin and hexadecyl chain and polyethylene glycol appears to have increased liposolubility and PEGylation. This is effective in chemotherapy, specifically NSCLC (Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer).
