Indication:
Nintedanib is in a group of medicines called tyrosine-kinase inhibitors and anti-fibrotic agents. Nintedanib mainly affects the immune system of the body and reduces the amount of fibrosis (scarring) in our lungs.
Together with docetaxel, it is used in non small cell lung cancer treatment (NSCLC).
It is also recommended for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
Dosage for NSCLC:
Treatment with nintedanib should be initiated and supervised by the physician experienced in the use of anticancer therapies.
The recommended dose of nintedanib is 200 mg twice daily administered about 12 hours apart, on days 2-21 of a standard 3 week docetaxel treatment cycle.
This drug must not be consumed on the same day of docetaxel chemotherapy administration.
The recommended maximum daily dose of 400 mg never be exceeded.
Patients may continue the therapy with this drug after the interruption of the docetaxel for as long as clinical benefit is reported or until the unacceptable toxicity occurs.
Dosage for IPF:
Treatment with cyendiv should be initiated by the physicians who are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis).
The recommended daily dose should be nintedanib 150 mg twice daily administered about 12 hours apart.
The maximum recommended daily dose is 300 mg which should not be exceeded.
How to take nintedanib:
Nintedanib capsules exist as the strength of 150mg and 100mg. Nintedanib 150 mg as a starting dose should be taken twice a day.
The dose should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and taken with, or straight after, food.
If the dose is missed by more than an hour then it should be completely missed. Do not take an additional dose to ‘catch up’ and you should not take more than two capsules in any 24 hour period.
In a few patients the nintedanib dose could be temporarily or permanently reduced to the 100mg twice daily. Although the capsule strength is different they should be taken in the same way.
What if you miss a dose?
Take your next dose at your usual time. Avoid the consumption of two doses at the same time.
